Butterfly valves, also comes quarter-turn operated valves. They have a disc which rotates quarter-turn to a position perpendicular to the flow direction to close the valve. They are used for on-off or modulating services and are known for their light-weight, lower costs, quick operation and are available in very large sizes. They come in wafer-type and lug-type and can be operated through manual lever, gearbox or pneumatic actuators.
